Saving Vacation Photos

I have found a great website if you love to travel and you are trying to figure out what to do with all of the photos you take whether on your phone or using a camera.

The name of the website is Polar Steps (https://www.polarsteps.com/).

Years ago, I used to take pictures with a camera and then get the film processed once I got home. Depending on the number of rolls, this could turn into quite an expensive task. Picking up the envelopes containing the photos and negatives was always a nerve-wracking moment, as it was when I would discover if that special shot turned out well or was just a blurry mess.  As the planner I am, I would then take the photos and insert them into a photo album with index cards inserted periodically explaining what the next few photos were all about including dates and other pertinent information that would help me remember.  I have often gone back to look at prior trips and even shared these photo albums with friends and family who were visiting someplace I had pictures of.  This process and albums were thoroughly enjoyed!

Then came digital photography. I love digital because I can instantly see if I got the shot right. No more worrying about blurry photos or someone’s face or body being cut off. I could take thousands of shots without having to worry about the cost.

But, digital photos create a huge issue:  Storage and Data Management.

Digital photos can quickly accumulate, leading to storage issues. Managing and organizing large numbers of digital images can be time-consuming and requires adequate storage solutions, such as external hard drives or cloud storage. Additionally, there’s always the risk of data loss due to hardware failure or accidental deletion.

I have been searching for a way to organize my digital photos like I used to organize my paper photos. That’s why I wanted to share PolarSteps with you just in case you are in the same boat that I find myself.

I have set up an account with PolarSteps (this is FREE) and will begin adding some photos that I have had on my phone from a cruise in 2019 when I cruised from Singapore to Sydney.  I will report on this experience in a later post.  I may even try to print the pictures I upload in one of the purchasable “photo albums.”  Once again, I can have my photo albums even though I am shooting digital photos.  This makes me happy!

Do any of you have any other options where you store and manage your digital photos?  Can you share that experience?
